“St. James Infirmary Blues” | Silk Road Ensemble + Rhiannon Giddens

(Music) I went down to St. James Infirmary To see my baby there She was lying on a long wooden table So cold, so still, so fair I went up to see the doctor “She’s very low,” he said I went back to see my baby Good God she’s lying there dead I went down to old Joe’s bar room On the corner of the square They were serving drinks as per usual And the usual crowd was there To my left stood Old Joe McKennedy His eyes were bloodshot red He turned to the crowd around him And these are the words he said “Let her go, let her go, God bless her Wherever she may be She can search
this whole wide world all over But she’ll never find another man like me She can search
this whole wide world all over And she’ll never find another man like me When I die, please God, bury me In my ten-dollar Stetson hat Put a twenty-dollar gold piece
on my watch chain So my friends know I died standing pat Get six gamblers to carry my coffin And six choir girls to sing me a song Stick a jazz band on my hearse wagon To raise hell as I go along Now that’s the end of my story Let’s have another round of booze And if anyone should ask you Just tell them I got the St. James Infirmary blues (Applause)

Gawd, what a bunch of miserable, back-biting dogs have appeared. Get yourselves some new lives folks, it's obvious you aren't happy in the ones you're living if this is your idea of a reasonable way to spend your time.

If you're here to throw your hate and disappointment about the last video comment section being deleted, I have a few things to tell you all:
    1) You're being disrespectful to these amazing artists. I can't see a single comment of appreciation to this AMAZING version of a Jazz classic-cult song.
2)You're being disrespectful, pedant and closed to an institution who brings you the BEST of the high/popular/pop/music culture on the web. Before leaving your disgusted comment did you even asked yourself WHY they HAD to disable the comment section?
3)You're being disrespectful to that woman,to the people and to YOU. You're throwing hate toward a person you don't know, while being reductionist. I saw you wishing her to die,I saw you insulting her only cause you don't agree with her.
I know you can do better than that.
And please, don't talk about freedom of speech. If you think that freedom of speech is saying wathever you want, whenever you want to whoever you want, you clearly don't know what freedom of speech is. If you don't know how to use them, your rights mean nothing; we are in a mediatic society, and learning how to communicate is very important. One of the reasons they disabled the comment section is that you WERE NOT COMMUNICATING,YOU WERE NOT DEBATING,YOU WERE NOT DISCUSSING,YOU WERE NOT "SHARING IDEAS",YOU WERE JUST HATING,OPPRESSING AND USING YOUR RIGHTS TO HURT ANOTHER PERSON,AND YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES IN A CIVIL SOCIETY.

So Dear TED,thank you for your services and for your divulgation work.

This is a response to the fear of fat talk. I'm posting here because comments have been disabled. First off I am massively shocked that this channel/company/media/news outlets pushes pseudoscience and false information. First claim "you can be fat and healthy". You can be healthy as a fat person but it's very very unlikely you will be healthy for long term. If you are morbidly obese like the woman in the video you are at massive risk of heart disease, strokes, cancer, diabetes, joint problems, inflammatory disorders. Just to name a few. Imagine having to have you foot amputated at the age of 50 due to diabetes. Potentially having Sudden chest pain in your 40's. or perhaps losing your eye sight due to diabetes. Imagine being a family member to someone that is morbidly obese and someone you love and watching them go through a devastating stroke causing them to confounded to a bed requiring to be spoon fed the rest of their lives due to the inability for them to control their bodies because of the brain damage. If you accept to be fat you dramatically increase the risk of these issues, your family members will suffer too. It is physiologically impossible not to lose weight if you consume less calories than you use. some people who are overweight can have a literal mental illness that is associated with overeating so they will need help with there psychological state and food and exercise. For some overweight people it can be lack of knowledge, the foods to eat and quantities, the exercise knowledge, the lack of desire to change. Please if you are overweight please seek help so you and the others around you can have a greater quality of life. Doing something is better than nothing. I'm mean not to fat shame anyone the purpose of this is not to fat shame. Fat shaming is counter productive for society. I simply aim to point people in the direction to living a healthier happier life. Furthermore fat accepting the way this women talks about is massively counter productive for society as a whole as it's self destructive, has implications on health providers like the NHS who spend billions to treating issues that are due to people being overweight, he's implications on relationships, can make you insecure, etc etc etc

You can be mentally healthy and a healthy weight, but you can be mentally ill and unhealthy as someone who is considered a healthy weight, but it's far mor likely that you will be mentally ill and unhealthy as an overweight person.

Guys, your song is amazing, I love it the use of somewhat obscure instruments is great and I love the sound you made, I know you worked so hard on creating this song and practising it over and over and sorry that people can't have a discussion about the content of the video in question, but anyway not here to judge or to hate. Great job!

This is the third time I've listened to this video and I haven't actually watched it before, so when I saw the shakuhachi head joint attached to the metal flute I got so shook (I'm a flute player). Really interesting how it still works out 😀 I absolutely love this group and what they do because it shows that musicians can give back to the world in a profound and impactful way. Honestly, they contribute more to the world than a lot of people, and their music is beautifully foreign and familiar, but still so different.

This was interesting, but, Cab Calloway's version was certainly better since it had much more of an atmosphere, especially in Betty Boop cartoon. Also, I'm pretty sure this song got much more popular because of Cab Calloway.
