Sampan Silk and Bamboo Lanterns: Colours and Opening instructions

Welcome to Sampan. I will show you the lanterns
we have here in Australia. We have 3 sizes, Small comes in 20 cms length and all sizes
are without the tassel. The next one up is the Medium size with is around 35 cms and
the third one is what we call Large which is around 45 cms. All Lantern sizes are collapsed
and in this shape. The important part about the Lanterns is how to open them and take
care of them.I will talk about the Lanterns we have here. We have a range of colours and
a range of sizes and different shapes. Most of these are on our website www.sampan.com.au.
If you go to the LanternShop tab you will actually see the range of Silk colours and
lanterns shapes which we are able to sell and what we stock here in Melbourne. To give
you an idea this is a large lantern and one of the samples we have made with lot of different
silk colours. To open the lanterns the most important thing is to make sure that this
portion which is the Aluminum wire is never bent because this gives shape to the Lanterns.
You take care of this and the Lantern will take care of itself. If it gets bent on either
side the Lantern will not take shape. The best way which I think to open the Lanterns
is to find a firm surface. Make sure you don’t use an expensive table that might get scratched
because there is a bit of pressure that is involved. Do not put your body weight on the
lantern as it might bend the bamboo at the bottom. The best is to be at the Lantern height.
You keep this nice and free and with your fingers holding this slit on the wooden top
start to push the top down and make sure this comes out as the top goes in. Keep pushing
it down and if you look from top in you will see that the lanterns is fully deployed push
the wedged portion in and bring it to rest on top of the wooden slit. One side at at
time. It is all done . If it is bent you can actually straighten it up. Now to permanently
open the lanterns the metal wire actually has to run all the way in the slit. You can
hang it and put a low powered bulb in it. The kind of Colors we have are Pink, Dark
blue, Red, Red Gold, Purple. Now to put the Lantern back into the original shape, the
same process but in the reverse order. Hold the Lantern again on the top, you press one
side first, push the wire out and then second side push down and wire out of the slot, all
the way and that is where you started. Remember make sure you take care of the aluminum wire
in the middle don’t bend it, pull it up as you open the lantern and that is about it.
The other shape and colors we have is called Teardrop. I will open this lantern and show
you and quickly repeat the steps. Hold the Lantern on the top with the slit between your
fingers, make sure this is free, start to push it down and at the same time pull this
up, there come a point when you slowly bring the wire wedge on top and then turn around
and do the other side and the lantern has taken shape. In this one you can see Green,
White, Teal, Yellow/Gold, Red Purple different colours on a different shape. Hopefully you
will enjoy the lanterns and you are able to use it for a long long time. They are very
durable and the look just beautiful Thank you
